Nashville teachers don't think as highly about the conditions of their schools as their bosses do, an anonymous survey of 4,912 educators employed by Metro Nashville Public Schools found.
Metro school officials are glowing at this week's results from its fourth annual district wide survey called Teaching, Empowering, Leading and Learning, or TELL, conducted by the national nonprofit New Teacher Center.
Some areas showed gains, but still need work. Though more teachers believe class sizes are reasonable to address student needs, positive response still sits at just 68.5 percent of those surveyed.
84.8 percent said they work in professional learning communities to develop instructional practices, compared to 79.1 percent last year.
"MNPS continues to make improvement on these measures that make differences for kids," Eric Hirsch, chief external affairs officer at the New Teacher Center, told the school board Tuesday.

While 100 percent of Nashville principals said teachers are assigned classes that maximize likelihood for success, only 70.3 percent of teachers felt the same way.

The response rate of this year's Metro survey was 79.2 percent, compared to 83.8 percent in 2013.
Results from the statewide TELL survey have found critics who say that lofty numbers don't reflect disenchantment at the ground level from many teachers.
